Problem:

The Auction:
West  North  East  South
pass    pass    pass  2♣
pass    2       pass  2NT
pass    3♣      pass  3
pass   3NT     all pass

Plan the play after West leads the J.

Solution:
You have chances in both black suits, the key is to time your plays correctly in order to maximize your chances of success. After winning the opening lead, it must be right to start on clubs, and the right way to tackle the suit is to cash the ♣A and lead a low club towards the jack. If West has the ♣Q, the ♣J is your ninth trick.

If East wins the ♣Q and clears diamonds, you should cash the ♣K now. If clubs divide 3-3, you are home. On this deal however, East turns up with four clubs. Your next move should be to cross over to dummy with the A and lead a spade. If East has both the ♠A and the ♠Q, the contract is guaranteed. If East plays low, if you guess correctly, you are through.

If things go wrong once again and you guess incorrectly to play the ♠J losing to West's queen, there is still hope. You win West's diamond return, cash your heart honors, and throw East in with a club, forcing him to provide a trick for your ♠K.

Analysis:
Looking at all four hands defeats the point of the hand, and therefore this deal is not conducive for a double dummy analysis.
Par Contract Analysis:
The par contract on this deal is 4NT by North-South.
